Initiating the Account Hierarchy Page

— Intro —

The Account Hierarchy page uses the standard Account parent-child relationship to determine account structure. To support this functionality, the process populates a custom Top-Level Account field on each Account record, which the Account Hierarchy page uses to display relationships.

The initial setup must be completed only once to populate the required data for existing Accounts and enable the Account Hierarchy page.

— Prerequisites —

Before completing these steps, ensure you have:

  • Access to the Account Plan Setup tab.
  • The required permissions to run the account linking process.
  • Access to Account records and related fields.
  • Temporarily disable Account validation rules before running the batch process.

— Steps to Complete —

    1. Click the Account Plan Setup tab.
    2. Click the Link Historical Accounts button.
    3. Click the link above the button to monitor the batch job’s progress.
    4. Allow the batch process to complete.

The batch process will populate the Top-Level Account field, which is required for the Account Hierarchy page to function.

— Outcomes —

After completing these steps:

  • The Top-Level Account field will be populated for existing Account records.
  • The Account Hierarchy page will display Account relationships correctly.
  • Future Account records will continue to work with the Account Hierarchy functionality.

— Troubleshooting —

A: You can view the batch status in the setup area of Salesforce.

Q: How do I know if the Accounts have been linked correctly?
A: If you navigate to an Account record and view the Top Level Account Field. That should be populated with the correct account.
