How Opportunities Link to Account Plans
An opportunity will automatically link to an Account Plan when:
- The Opportunity is related to the same Account as the Key Account Plan and
- The Opportunity’s Close Date falls within the Duration (as defined by the From and To date fields) of the Account Plan.
If the Close Date changes to a period outside the Account Plan duration, then the Opportunity will unlink from the existing plan and re-link to the relevant Key Account Plan.
(If no Key Account Plan exists for the period, the Opportunity will automatically link up when you create a Key Account Plan that covers the date).
Scroll down the page to see the opportunities linking to the Account Plan. Here’s an example of what that looks like:
Note: Opportunities from child accounts are not linked to key account plans on the parent or top-level account.
This approach avoids complexity in higher-level key account plans. It also reflects a typical scenario of needing separate Key Account Plans at the corporate HQ and divisional or business unit levels.
