Modify the Product Category Field
Rather than matching the Opportunities Products to target records via just the Opportunity Owner, the Product Targets rely on a separate Product-level field that identifies the relevant product category associated with the product.
To start, create the appropriate picklist values in the Product Category Field directly on the Product record. This field matches the Opportunity Product to the correct Product Target.
Do the following:
1. Go to Setup > Object Manager > Product > Fields & Relationships. From there, click the “Product Category” field.
2. Click View Product Category Value Set
3. Create all the Picklist Values you need using the New Button.
As this is a Global Value Set, it creates the Product & Product Target Records values.
Assign the Correct Product Category Value to All Products
Now that you have created the correct values on the product category picklist. You need to assign the correct category to each product.
Do the following:
1. Create a CSV Report of all Products. Include helpful fields, and remember to include the Product ID and Product Category Fields.
2. Export the report to Excel.
3. Assign the appropriate values in the Excel Spreadsheet.
4. Use the Dataloader to update the Product Records with the correct Product Category Value.
