Starting date for Account Plans
Let’s say you are building a one-year Account Plan for an essential customer. You have four choices when it comes to the start date for the plan:
- Build the Account Plan based on the calendar year.
- Define the Account Plan to coincide with your fiscal year.
- Map the Account Plan to the customer’s fiscal year.
- Build the Account Plan around another meaningful date.
Generally, we recommend Options 1 and 4.
The start of a new calendar year is a meaningful focus for many organizations (especially when the fiscal year coincides with the calendar year).
Often, that’s when initiatives are launched based on fresh budgets, and everyone returns to work after the holidays with new energy!
However, meaningful seasons or periods outside the fiscal or calendar year bring new focus to industries like travel and education. If this is the case in your business, build your Account Plans around these cycles.
