How to Exclude Opportunities from Linking to Targets

Available In All Versions of GSP Target Tracker

By default, the GSP Target Tracker will link any Opportunities that align with the target matching logic to the appropriate target.

That said, many businesses have individual Opportunities that they would like to exclude from targeting for various reasons. The GSP Target Tracker includes a simple, quick method to prevent specific Opportunities from linking to any target type using the “Do Not Link to Target” checkbox.

If you have not added the “Do Not Link to Target” checkbox to the page layout, an admin will need to add this field for you.

Prerequisites:
Please ensure the “GSP Target Tracker (Full Access)” Permission Set is assigned to the user.

Steps to Complete

1. Depending on the visibility of the “Do Not Link to Target” checkbox on the Opportunity, please complete one of the following:
   • If you can’t see the checkbox, continue from step 2.
   • If you can see the checkbox, continue from step 10.
2. Click the cog in the top-right corner to navigate to the “Setup” menu.
   
3. Select the “Object Manager”.
   
4. Find and click the “Opportunity” object in the Object Manager.
5. Navigate to “Page Layouts” in the Opportunity object.
   
6. Find and click the page layout currently in use on the Opportunity.
7. Add the following to your existing “Target Information” section.
   • Add the “Do Not Link to Target” field.
8. Once you are happy with the field positioning, click “Save”.
9. Repeat steps 6-8 for any additional page layouts that are currently in use.
10. Open an Opportunity (that the system has linked to one or more targets) that you would like to exclude from targeting.
11. Update the “Do Not Link to Target” field value to true.
    
12. Confirm that the system has unlinked the Opportunity from all Sales, Team and/or Product targets.

Outcomes

Once the “Do Not Link to Target” checkbox is added to the Page Layout and set to true, the system will no longer link that specific Opportunity to any target in the future. You can reverse this logic by updating the “Do Not Link to Target” checkbox to false.

Important Consideration:
Many teams implement flow/Apex to automate the population of the “Do Not Link to Target” checkbox based on the value of other fields on the Opportunity or Account. For example, the system should always exclude Opportunities of a specific business line from targets. If you need any assistance to implement this, please get in touch.
