Setting up Quantity Schedules

When salespeople schedule Opportunity Products in your company, do they think about revenue, quantity, or both?

If salespeople think about scheduling revenue, then you use Revenue Schedules. However, if salespeople focus more on scheduling quantity, use Quantity Schedules.

In this context, remember that if you set up quantity scheduling, the app still generates the Revenue Amount for each Quantity Schedule. You can track revenue and quantity over time in reports and dashboards.

How to set up Quantity Schedules

There are two options when implementing Quantity Schedules. They are:

  1. Set Quantity Schedules as the standard schedule type for your business. This means quantity scheduling (rather than revenue scheduling) applies to all Opportunity Products.
  2. Allow users to select whether to create Quantity or Revenue Schedules for each Opportunity Product.

Generally, we recommend option 1 unless there’s a good reason to mix Schedule Types across Opportunities or Opportunity Products.

Option 1:

  1. Navigate to Setup.
  2. Go to the Opportunity Product object.
  3. Click Fields and Relationships.
  4. Select the Schedule Type field.
  5. Scroll down to the Values Section
  6. Next to the Quantity Value, click Edit.
  7. Tick the Default Checkbox.
  8. Click Save.

With this option, you do not need to add the Schedule Type to the product selection Multi-Line Layout page because the app will automatically apply Quantity schedules in every case.

Option 2:

  1. Navigate to Setup.
  2. Go to the Opportunity Product page layout. From the Object Manager, select Opportunity Product.
  3. From Page Layouts, select Opportunity Product Layout.
  4. At the top of the page, click the Edit Multi-Line Layout button.
  5. Add the Schedule Type field to the multi-line layout.
  6. Click Save.
