Using S-Curve Schedule Profiles

By default, the app sets a Straight-Line profile for Revenue Schedules. This means that on a single Opportunity Product, each monthly schedule is for the same dollar amount.

However, users can also choose between Straight-Line and S-curve schedule profiles.

The S-curve profile has reduced revenue amounts at the start and end of the series of Revenue Schedules, with higher revenue amounts during the middle portion. This creates an S-curve in the cumulative revenue profile.

This is useful, for example, in lengthy project-based revenue streams that may have relatively light mobilization activity at the beginning, lots of resources doing implementation or built work in the middle period, and training or commission effort at the end.

To use S-curve profiles:

  • Navigate to Setup, Object Manager, and Opportunity Product.
  • Select Page Layout, then Multi-Line Layout.

  • Add the Revenue Projection Method field to the Multi-Line Layout and click Save.

  • Navigate to the Revenue Schedules Getting Started tab and click the ‘Create S-Curve Template’ button at the bottom of the page. This will generate the S-curve template records.
  • You will know if this has worked as a grey banner saying SCurve data successfully created will appear at the top of the page.

Thereafter, when adding a Product to an Opportunity, Users can select the relevant projection method to which the Opportunity Product should be applied.
